Nationalization of the Suez Canal involved the transfer of ownership from the French government to the Egyptian government in return for compensation granted to foreigners. This happened on 26th July 1956, during the era of President Gamal Abdel-Nasser, due to the World Bank’s refusal to finance the Egyptian government for the construction of the High Dam. The nationalization of the Suez Canal was a cause of the tripartite aggression carried out by Britain, France and Israel against Egypt
