The United States was opposed to the tripartite aggression and the Soviet Union showed her support for Egypt by threatening military intervention to stop the aggressors.
The United Nations condemned the aggression and demanded the aggressors withdraw their forces. The British and French troops withdrew from Port Said on 23 December 1956. The Port Saīd Governorate celebrates the evacuation of aggression forces on that date every year
