On 11th February 1920 a Royal Communiqué was issued to inform the Cabinet of Prince Farouk’s birth. There was nationwide jubilation and 21-gun salutes were fired. Government employees and bankers were allowed a vacation. Some prisoners were given amnesty, in addition to distributing charity to the poor. The prince’s birthday remained as an annual anniversary celebrated by Egypt. This 4-stamp issue marks the occasion of his 9th birthday.
