The Universal Postal Union (UPU) was founded on 9th October 1874. It is a day still celebrated all over the world as World Post Day. On that date, the representatives of 22 countries signed the Berne Convention, unifying a conflicting mixture of postal systems and services into one postal arena through which messages and different postal packages would be exchanged.
The UPU is committed to documenting and developing communication among people since it seeks to provide low-cost, reliable postal services. It is an apolitical body that does not interfere in the domestic affairs of the national postal services.
The UPU, in its performance of many duties, promotes the free flow of international postal services, supports improving the quality of postal service offered to customers, and provides technical assistance to member countries when needed.
