1958 – Celebrating the Republic of Iraq

It is the revolution of July 14, 1958 known as the movement or the coup of July 14, 1958 that overthrew the Iraqi Kingdom. King Faisal II was king of Iraq. Historians have differed in assessing the system of the royal regime and in naming the movement between coup and revolution. The proclamation of the Iraqi Republic and the end of monarchy was via  the first statement of the movement presented by Abdul Salam Arif  from  the Broadcasting Station after he had  succeeded  in Coup d ’ état. Arif seized control of General Command of the Army, Broadcasting Station and the Compound of Central Telephone Switchboard by "20" Brigade sectors being under his command. It also happened by the support of his fellows, members of the National Officers Organization or the Free Officers on Monday morning, October 14, 1958.
