10m stamp issued 8 March 1957 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Victory over the British at Rosetta. Photogravure by the Survey Department, Cairo.
In 1807 Britain dispatched her troops, led by General Fraser, against Egypt. Britain had agreed with Muhammed Bey Al-Alfi, one of the Mamluk leaders, to support Egypt provided it allowed the Mamluks to seize power. Egypt did not succumb to the invasion, but resisted it fiercely. The nation, with the same spirit it had shown during the French Campaign, i.e. resistance, sacrifice, defense and protection, rose up against the aggressors until the campaign failed. Rashid had the best chance of defeating this campaign.
