King Farouk celebrated the 100th anniversary of the death of his grandfather, Muhammad Ali Pasha, with prayers at Ibrahim Mosque, which was built especially for this occasion.  He then recited the Opening Verses of the Holy Qur’an at the grave of his grandfather.  A military parade, prepared to commemorate this occasion, also attended.  The Muhammad Ali Pasha University, known today as Assiut University, was inaugurated on the date of this occasion.
